Sqeaky Front suspension
So, my front suspension has gotten really squeaky in the last few weeks of driving. I first suspected the sway bar bushings as the passenger side looked damaged/folded a bit in the bracket (which I noticed while it was up on jack stands while cleaning out the radiators over the winter). Anyway, went to replace the bushings and realized it was actually the sway bar that was heavily corroded and had damaged the bushing...After installing a new (used) sway bar, new (powerflex) bushings, copper grease, everything tightened up to spec's... STILL SQUEAKY...(maybe worse than ever...). Fast forward to tonight (this has really been bugging me), I had my son squirt some WD-40 (nod to Hurdigurdiman...) while I rocked the car to get it to squeak - I should have used this simple technique first as it only took a minute or two before we identified the offender(s) - it seems to be the struts and maybe the spring perches to some extent. My main question is whether there is a special lubricant for the strut rods? Obviously WD-40 won't last very long and might damage the seals. Regular grease? High temp (red or blue)? Just wondering if anybody has some prior experience with this particular problem? Perhaps the struts are going bad? Squeaks a precursor to failure/replacement (I'm in no rush to replace btw...)?
