I'm looking at replacing the original Becker CDR-210 stereo in my 1999 996 with a newer system which will allow me to use my phone hands free (Bluetooth ) and navigation.
1. Is this easy to do ? Will the new system fit in and look nice ?
2. Is anyone looking for the original Becker system ? Nothing wrong with it.

It's easy to remove, but you need the radio removal keys from Becker or somewhere else.
On a CDR-220, you remove the face which exposes two thin vertical slits. The radio removal key go in there and release two prongs in the back (you'll hear a click). Then, you pull hard on the two keys (it helps if you wear leather gloves, to protect your fingers).
BTW, that is not the original radio that came with any 996. I think yours is from a 993, so someone with a 993 may be interested.

Looks are a matter of opinion.
Do a google search for car audio innovations store. They have upgrade kits for single DIN upgrade or full double DIN with all of the harnesses you will need. The single DIN is easy.

I replaced my CDR-220 with a single DIN Alpine a while ago. I recently went with a Double DIN Alpine DVD because I wanted Bluetooth and Hulu Pus. That install took a lot more work because I had to move the climate controls and modify the horseshoe.

Just a tip. I ordered some cheapo removal tools from e-bay. After a couple hours of cursing, and ALMOST getting it out, I gave up, went to a car stereo shop, flipped the kid $20 and he had it out in 10 seconds. QUALITY tools are key!
After that things are pretty simple.
