Question C, C2, C4?

Just a quick clarification- I know C4 and C4S designations are for the AWD variants, and C2 denotes a two wheel drive RWD Carreras. There is no third option - just plain ol' C, correct? I was contemplating personalized plates when they become due again this month, and based on availability my initial choice was C996, but 996C2 is also available (as well as 996C). I have "just a Carrera" Cab , but wanted to confirm if i go with 996C2 on my plate, it would be correct and proper. (and simple "996" is already taken) Thanks!

Correct, there is no "C" variant. C2 = rear wheel drive, C4 & C4S all wheels driven.

Related: there is no 996 C2S variant, despite the occasional craigslist or ebay seller listing.

Porsche made carrera
carrera 4
Carrera 4s

The carrera is really a carrera 2, but Porsche didn't call it that like they did with previous gen.

So to everyone else is the world your plate would be correct, but to a select group of Porsche owners (mostly air cooled a-holes) your plate would not be right.

I think 996C2 would be the preferred choice to us 996 guys. Someone may disagree, but I think the overwhelming majority would go with that.

Count me in on that statement.

I was a C4S guy when the owned a 996. If I buy another 996, I'll probably get another C4S!

I was solely referring to what letters he should use on his personalized license plate.
