Default Light **** Problem

Hey guys I am brand new to Porsche and to the forum in general.

I am 25 years old and purchased my first 996 a couple of weeks ago and I love it!

Two days ago I started having an issue with the lights on my car.
The circle **** beside the key stopped turning all the way to the light on position.
I have been driving at night with the **** in the second position pulled out. So the head lights themselves are not on just the outer lights if that makes any sense.

I think the problem i have is simple I might have hit something that won't let me turn the **** all the way.

Please help I need to be able to drive my car at night. It is my DD.

You may need to replace your headlight switch. This is a fairly common issue.

I did do some research. And it seemed like the people having the problem with the switch could actually turn it to the on position but the lights would not turn on.

I can not physically turn the *** past the second position. Is this a sign of the switch going out?

The circular switch should turn 2 clicks to the right for side then head lights. Also should pull out and turn to the left parking lights 2 positions for independent parking side lights.

When I got the car it would go two to the right... then one more for the head lights.

Now it will not go past the two first clicks.

It shouldn't be hard to turn it... but it just won't go past it i don't want to force it.

I read in the manual that it will only go to the third click if the ignition is engaged or something along those lines. Is my ignition not engaging or something... Im not sure how else to describe it. I might take a video and just talk it through.

The switch only goes two clicks to the right. First click is parking lights and second click is the low beam. The switch cannot turn beyond that and there is no mechanical linkage to the ignition switch.

So it sounds like your switch is bad.

It is your headlight switch, it is gone.

Also, what is the year/model of the car?
