Would a failing Crank position sensor trigger a CEL even if it was just problematic during warm start?

Started to check my earth point cables and have ordered the starter-alternator cable. This will problably solve my slow warm start.

Just want to rule out CPS, no CEL on the car which is nice.
Will maybe replace starter while I am in there
Battery is tested, perfect. Starter runs perfect at cold start, can still be failing.

My understanding is no, a failing crank position sensor (CPS) won't trigger a CEL. The failure may not let the engine run but it doesn't affect emissions and thus not worthy of a CEL. There may be error codes log, Porsche proprietary ones, but I do not what if any these are.

If you are seeing the CEL come on read the codes both active and any pending and post for comment.

There should be a list of 996 codes here somewhere - look through them for one related to CPs ... My Benz w204 had failing camshaft ps - which threw a code which I could clear with basic odb reader and then it would come back a few days later. Replaced magnets and all was fine ...
