The other option is to buy another 996 for the track and rebuild the engine to address the deficiencies of the M96. Once said and done you're probably in it for less than a 996 GT3. Unfortunately resale value won't match the GT3 but if it's a keeper then who cares?

I love the raw feel of my early 996, no psm, lighten quite a bit, loud, etc.

With that said I would say a 997 cs aero on a diet or a Cayman s(or higher, r,gts, gt4 if money wasn't as important at the moment).

For me, in this order
Jack Olsen's '72 911
other '69-72 911
356
968
another '88 944 turbo. Call me crazy.

Gulliver, another 951, your not crazy, they are wonderful cars. I miss mine and all her craziness

I appreciate the 356 and the history, but man o man I think most I've see, I haven't been a fan of. I think they are ugly... Flame suit on
now a 550 spyder or 904 Carrera GTS is my type of "classic" Porsche.

That being said, having one Porsche in the garage makes me feel like buying another brand to experience that. I've been thinking about a Lotus Evora or possibly an older Ferrari like an F360. I don't know if I'd ever actually do it, but I've thought about it!
If you are thinking Italian here are two very different thoughts...the new Alfa 4C...and a 1975-77 Ferrari 308 GT4 Dino.

The Ferrari will seem slow and old but it has one of the best driver positions ever, and it is actually a very good DD. The 40 year old V8 did 8000 rpm out of the box. And shifting through the metal gate is pure sex.

The Alfa 4C is everything the Cayman isn't. The Alfa is light and has a killer 4 cylinder engine and it is a true stripped down street fighter. The Cayman has already bloated out well beyond its original configuration, and the only reason it looks relatively small is because the 991 has grown to the size of a Camero.

^^^ Agree.

I drove my friend's Ferrari 308 few months ago.... it was pure fun! Total analog car and the engine howling right behind you.... pure driving pleasure!

What the Alfa isn't is a car I can fit into!
I sat in one at an auto show and I would have to amputate my legs to fit in the car.
The first gen Cayman is as raw as a Cayman is ever going to be. As the new generations come out, they seem to grow in size and complexity.
