Default spacer questions

I just installed 15mm spacers on my 996.I have a question concerning the lug nuts. The original lug nuts have a cone shaped washer. The lug nuts that came with the spacers have a cone shaped head integrated. The diameter of the head and cone is smaller than the original.Would this create a weakness or should I not worry if the torque is good. I rode the other day after installation and I had to retorque the lug nuts. I just thought that the spacers were settling in. It is normal for me to recheck the torque after 100 miles or so after installing the wheel.Just curious to see if i'm OK.

Not sure about the lug nut issue, but if they came with the spacer I'd presume they're appropriately sized.

It isn't uncommon to have to retorque the lugs after 50-100 miles after installation. I do all the time and, depending on my neurosis, I will check it from time to time, probably around the same time I check tire pressures.

The OEM lug nuts have a ball type washer. I have been checking the torque and they seem to loosen.I removed one lug nut and noticed that only a small part of the ball is touching the wheel(maybe 1mm) while the OEM ones touch most of the ball.I compared both and the angle of the ball is different than the original .Safety wise I cannot keep them as more surface should be touching the rim so they don't loosen on me at speed.I phoned them today and said it was the first they heard about that but that the lug nuts are mostly for after market wheel. They will take them back if I decide to do so. I just don't feel safe

Yeah. Sounds like a real issue and I agree about sending them back.

Check Pelican or Suncoast. They'll have something that fits way better than whatever you bought.

Lug nuts and spacers are like brakes. You should never cheap out or buy unknown brands. It can turn into a matter of life and death very quickly.

What did you want from this change? It won't make the car go faster or handle better. If it was such a good idea, why didn't Porsche do it in the first place? Porsche does offer and approve of 5mm spacers but that is as far as they go.

There are very good mods that will make your car go faster and handle better...but stuff that is just for looks is pimping your car not modifying it.

I have H&R 15mm spacers up front, with extended lugs. Looks great, slightly better turn-in feel, and quality brand. I totally agree with 996pp, go with a good brand for spacers.
