Default Anyone using Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 s?

I'm really quite surprised to see no mention of this tire here given all the European tire tests it's won. (I found 16 tests from 2011 on, with 5 firsts, 4 seconds, 4 thirds, and 3 fourths.) But while it's on top of my list so far, it's not perfect, and there are some things that concern me about using it on a Porsche. So I'd be very interested in the findings of any forum members who've tried it!

I'm particular interested in how it measures up in steering response, precision, and feedback; plus turn in; and whether it increases/decreases understeer and when.

For those of you who have tried these, could you mention in your post which car you have (996.1 C2, 996.2 C4 Cabrio, etc.) and which wheel sizes?

(P.S. I'm interested in other recommendations, of couse, but perhaps it's helpful to mention that quite a few otherwise likely suspects are not relevant for me: Not MPSS's nor is anything equally or more track oriented, the ever popular (on this forum) Sumitomos aren't even sold in Europe, Hankooks and Bridgestones are not what I need, I'm reluctant to have another bad experience with P Zeros (even if on paper they are what I need, and much though I love Pirelli winter tires), and neither any relevant Dunlop nor CSC5's or 5P's are available in the sizes I need. What remain on my list are only CSC2's CSC3's, and MPS2's.)

Thanks!

These were on my 996 when I purchased it, and I run them on my Corvette. Performance is fine - not amazing - but if there is ANY chance you will wind up on a wet street, I'd look elsewhere. Especially in the 285mm width my Corvette requires, these will plane in the smallest amount of rain.

Had those on my Lotus Esprit.
As 5CHN3Ll said ,good performance ,but not great. Replaced them with Falken 452's, and the difference was night and day.

Those tires are much more forgivable on the C4, since a lot of the fun with the Corvette involves power slides and other tomfoolery, and it's pretty neutral (51/49). They're a lot less enjoyable on the not-so-neutral 996.

5CHN3LL, thanks. Can I ask what sizes you had? 17s? 18s with 265 rears? Or 18s with 285s? And you foudn they acquaplaned on both the 996 and the Corvette, or just on the Corvette?

And I'm a bit confused by your second post. You found them OK on a a C4, but not on a C2? Or ... ?

Also, what did you replace them with, and what differences did you notice?

Thanks again!

Alan, somehow reading your post I'm wondering if you didn't replace the Goodyears more than a few years ago. Are you sure you had the current model, the Asymmetric 2? Or might you have had the original Asymmetric?

Thanks!

Running a set on the 535xi now and just put a set on the 911 (17's) when I took off the winter tires. So far no complaints.

Sorry, the "C4" in this post is my C4 Corvette, not my Carrera 4. The tires are acceptable on the Corvette.

I run 19" wheels on the 911, and I just didn't enjoy the Eagles. I had to take the 911 to the airport in a fairly hard rain*, and keeping the rear tires on the ground was a challenge, and they weren't good enough as a UHP tire in the right condidionts to justify the abysmal wet performance.

On the 911, I replaced the tires with Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 XL (225/35ZR-19 front, 265/30ZR-19 rear).

My Corvette's front tires (255/45-17 (Front) and 285/40-17 (Rear)) are nearly as wide as the rears on my 911 - so when the Corvette planes, it generally does it all four wheels at once. The pucker factor is high.

*Fairly hard rain in San Diego is probably equivalent to "a light mist" in the rest of the country.

It was the current model of Asymmetric 2's. Purchased the Esprit 5 years ago and changed to the Goodyear's last year. I replaced them in less than a year.
Found it much to easy to break the rear end loose, and this is on a mid engine car. Not so with the Falken's.

Interesting, Now that I read Schnell's post. Looks like he's saying pretty much the same thing, but with a front engine car, hmm.

Two side notes,
One, I was only using the Goodyear's on the rear.
Two, The Esprit's turbo comes on at 3k RPM, and gives a substantial kick in power which the Goodyear's had trouble handling in anything but a straight line.

Have you driven the 911 in the rain yet?

5CHN3LL, thanks for following up! Were your Goodyear's also 265s, or did you go narrower with the Hankook's to avoid acquaplaning?

Have you driven the Hankook's in similar conditions? (And if so, they were much better?)

Thanks!
