The 'cold' measurement will be dramatically different in each place, as will the tires' performance at the same inflation.

Can't find anywhere that sorts this out technically for me.
Check this out. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=73

Should give you the info you need. Your instincts are correct, tire pressure is affected by ambient air temperature and the variation in ambient air temp.

Thx - good link!
I see where their test says: "We monitored the changes in tire pressure in 5-minute intervals. "

Not sure how they do this, but it seems every time I put the gauge on the valve 1/2 pound leaks out! https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif

Their test rig probably has a built-in tire pressure monitor that checks pressure without adding/reducing any air in the tire. Just my guess, though.

BTW, I highly recommend this digital gauge
Amazon.com: Accutire MS-4350B Setpoint Tire Gauge: Automotive Amazon.com: Accutire MS-4350B Setpoint Tire Gauge: Automotive

It waits for pressure to stabilize before taking the reading and will beep when the reading is ready. You get consistent reading all the time and don't lose 1/2 pound when you put it on.
