Default Diffrrent oil filler tube?

So my task today was to swap out my broken oil filler tube. After i get everything out and get the new tube ready, i find it doesnt fit!
My old part number was 996-107-150-58, while the new part number is 996-107-150-61. Compared the two ends and the new part is about 1-2 mm bigger.
Called the dealership and they said thats the updated number so it should fit.
Did i get the correct part but with a manufacturing error,or did dealership send wrong part?
Kinda pisser to do all this work and not replace the part...i put it back together with a fixed filler tube so i could drive it for the next week while i wait for hopefully a proper fitting part

According to this diagram, http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=104-05 that looks like the right part # (#15 in the diagram)... Good luck and let us know what you find out

Just thinking. Customer is always right, so in this case the dealer is wrong.
Tell them that.
At least you have the battle half solved... There are two parts and one of them is incorrect.
The dealership ought to jump up and put the right one in a taxi and send it to you.
Make you happy instead of a weeks worth of unfinished business.
Just sayin.

The filler tube was updated to eliminate one of the molded in bellows. That shouldn't effect the fit at the engine side.

Did you measure where the "O" ring rides. Just thinking maybe there used to be a taper on the old one that is not on the new on? Or crushed "O" ring?

The part should be correct (I just replaced mine a while back with the same part). Frank is correct, the now tube looks different. Just lube the o-ring with some engine oil and it should slide it easily.

Ok thanks
The part obviously has an ever so slight manufacturing error and its about 2mm too big. I did lube up the new oring. Cant get it in even close to that point though. Old one fit back in perfectly and like i said there is an ever so slight difference in diameter between new and old

Ps...im a pro at reinstalling that plenum now! Under 5 minutes and minimal swearing! Alternator almost as good

It's too bad you can't get rid of tube part altogether and make an easy to get off cap an just use a long funnel to fill when changing the oil.

as an update...went to the pcar dealer at lunch and i had them look up the oil filler tube as tom on here indicated that they are now using a 997 part number. and sure enough he punched it up an it is a new part. so im just waitng for it to come in and hoepfully that sucker fits. unfortunately it takes a bit of work/time to get to the point of knowing whether or not it fits propertly or not. we shall see.

bonus: the new part is about 1/4 the cost of the 996 part!

That's interesting. Do you have the 997 p/n? I just want to see how the part looks like now.
So the new part is like $10 (1/4 of the stock one)?
I think mine is 99610715061

Ill get the pn next week. Ya 15$! Still looks pretty much the same from a quick peek. Side by side there may be a slight change

Thanks. I hope the quality is inversely proportional to its price

A little late but I was going to tell you the last one I bought actually had a 997 part number sticker on it.
