Does anyone know for sure if the factory Bose amp (2002 car, so pre-MOST) is designed to work with line level or speaker level inputs? Here's the reason I ask:
I just installed a Pioneer double din nav unit using the kit from Euromotorspeed. Everything turned out great, however the volume is WAY louder than it was with the stock head unit. I know that may not sound like a bad thing, but it is surprisingly loud, and the volume steps up in big increments now. For example - the adjustment for the nav guidance voice is independent of the music volume, and is on a scale of 0-100. I have it set at 5 percent and it is more than loud enough.
The wiring harness from Euromotorspeed has RCA inputs on it, but when I called them, I was told not to use them. They told me to hook up the amp turn on, but use the speaker outputs of the head unit to the speaker leads on the harness. Based on the way the volume is working, I'm second guessing that.
I could connect RCAs to the "speaker" connections on the harness and connect that to the RCA outputs on the Pioneer, but I just don't want to go through the trouble to find out that it doesn't work at all like that.
So, for those of you who replaced the head unit only in their pre-'03 Bose equipped car and still used the Bose amp / speakers? If you did, how did you wire it up?
