I don't know which are the newest, but I just put 997 seats (don't know what year), into my '99 996. They fit and work fine.

Did you look into recovering them? There are pre-made kits on the market for less than $1000. Installation is a few hundred.
Most of the seats I've looked like are worn and not that much better than mine.

The OEM seats in my C4 were pretty bad when I bought the car. I thought of replacing them but the local Porsche scavenger shops wanted between $1200 and $1800 for used ones. Plus the cost of installation. I looked into having them reupholstered in leather. The color is Savannah so I got a recommendation from a fellow P-car owner and the cost was a little less than $1500, which included installation and replacement of a new motor for the passenger seat. The OEM seats were leather (center part) but the bolsters were vinyl. Not sure if all 996s are like that but now I have 100% leather seats. It is something to consider. It took them three days to do the job and I am very happy with the results. Also, if your seat are not too damaged, many times they can be repaired and redyed. My friend Rolf had his '03 996 cab repaired and resprayed the seats and they now look like new You just got to shop around
