Default Carrera GT

Here's a teaser guys....the Carrera GT induces motion sickness, the deceleration is so powerful and with ceramic brakes too (sarcasm intended)!

The weirdest thing is it doesn't even feel like you're going fast, and there is no feeling of bumpiness or of being tossed around.

My queasiness came from being caught by the seat belt numerous times..all the time asking myself why is this guy braking?

Oh what a Porsche!

Wow, you drove one? If so, you gotta give us more details!

No, I was a passenger in one (why is this guy braking?) as part of the program for prospective buyers.

I really did try to sum it up.

It never felt fast, it was comfortable, not bone jarring and glued to the road.

I could have stayed in there all day, but when I did get out, after a little bit, I felt queasy, and I've never been car sick in my life. I was not alone in my experience.

Adjectives have been so over-used and abused that I hesitate to use any of them to describe this car. It exceeds all my experiences by a great margin. A quantum leap.

Just drive the hell out of any Porsche you have, given the technology in this car...there is a better one coming along. It (technology) will filter throughout the whole model line over time.

Colm,
As a prospective buyer about to spend ~$450,000 on a Porsche, do you feel that you should've been given the opportunity to at least drive the CGT?

Initially yes, but after the taxi ride, you quickly realize that this car is very fast and capable, but there were only two prototypes available.

Since you didn't have a true perception of speed I'm sure that the possibility for an "event" was very high. Then a large number of people could have been denied any experience at all. That wouldn't have worked very well.

Yes, I would have loved to drive it and wished they had let us, but it would have been premature. We never would have been able to explore the limits of "handling" that were demonstrated to us; not because some of the participants were'nt capable, but simply because there was not enough time to the learn the track or cars.

As a "consolation" Porsche made available GT2s, TT, C4Ss and Cayennes for everyone to drive over a three hour period. Pretty cool!

So, all in all, it was a wise and practical decision, more educational and most importantly...it left a reason to go back!

Colm,
Thank you for the explanation. I look forward to hearing how your perception of the car and response to it evolve after you drive yours.

I'm going in March and don't have a problem at all with them not allowing drives. This is a very limited production car which is nearly a $1/2 mil and I see no reason why they should make them available to drive. I'm just appreciative we get to ride in one. Besides, as Colm said, the "rides" are probably considerably faster than a drive would be. I have to imagine those doing the driving are so intimately acquainted with both the car and track that you get all there is to have.

colm, you had some posts at rennteam and here which seemed kinda differing. over there you said the car is a race car for the street, but here you said you really had no sense of going fast. it is a viceral experience (ie: pre 996s X2 ), right?
