Finally decided to install my DIY wheel. I used some shoe polish to darken it a little, it feels so much better I'm over having to have it look perfect!

Looks great!
How is it holding up?

That steering wheel looks great, excellent job!

Here's what I did with my nasty looking wheel... Before and after... Total cost was $11 for the Chinese piece of leather from eBay and about 1.5 hours of my time. It's a whole different vibe every time I get in the car to drive it now. Plus, the added thickness of the black leather feels nice when gripping the wheel. Perfect? No.... Smiles anyway, Yes!

I would love to change mine out as I have the wood inserts in mine as well.

But one thing I've noticed that in comparison to my Cayenne's steering wheel the one on the 996 feels like a ship wheel. It might only be a difference of an inch or so but it feels significant. Are there any smaller options for replacement that still keep the airbag intact?

Look at Carnewal. They've got 3 different size wheels available and the prices are reasonable (much better than stock which seem fairly ridiculous to me). http://www.carnewal.com/Raid The biggest problem for me is that they're all black...

It's not everybody's cup of tea, but I replace mine with a cup wheel (pun intended):

I'm really enjoying it. The smaller diameter makes it feel more responsive, but not twitchy. I REALLY like the suede. I was not sure that I would. Now for my connector to come in so I can get the horn working.

I wanted to give you a shout out for the tutorial you did on the iPad mini. I watched it a couple of times and did the job myself. Fantastic mod!

Thanks for blazing the trail!

The T96 wheel is smaller and thicker. I also found the flat bottom makes a big difference in clearing my knees.
