Since I am an unabashed "plastic mechanic", I do not bother. So I limit my "emergency kit" to a fully charged phone (with a back up power pack) and credit cards. I can do flat tires, check fuses/wires/cables/belts and that's about it on the road.
When I took a 1,500 mile roadtrip last fall, I took a small set of sockets which included torx bits, a small set of wrenches, a couple of screwdrivers, pliers, tire plug kit, and an OBD reader.
It depends on how far your driving and the condition of your car. I rarely ventured more than 3 or 4 miles from home but sometimes went more than 20 with only the Porsche tool kit, deflated spare, and air compressor. Almost got stranded by a leaking AOS/OVS coolant fitting but thank goodness was at local Market Basket only about 2 miles from home. Tragedy averted.
So you never know. Had that happened on IH10 between El Paso and here I would have been buzzard food.

If you're traveling long distances, a spare D2S bulb and the torx bit to replace it. If you are lucky enough to find one in stock at a parts store, they're quite expensive.
Thanks everyone. Always like to have some tools to get out of a pinch and like to see what others do. I am equipped with a AAA card as well, but if there are small items I can fix in the road then I will. Appreciate the responses...
Since I deleted the spare tire and associated junk, I carry a 12V inflator in the front trunk. Inside the inflator's zipper pouch is a multitool and a radial tire plug kit. If I'm going to be on a longer trip (a few hundred miles), I toss a quart of oil in the frunk, just in case, since import-friendly synthetics get hard to find once you're in the sticks. I also have a variety pack of fuses. Any repair more complex than a fuse or a flat tire I prefer to do at home, so the AAA card and cell phone rounds out the toolkit.
