AN EXPENSIVE TRIP
I went to Los Angeles on Friday from Vegas and decided to take the Porsche. It was a bad decision. The reason is that these cars are just to much fun to drive which makes it almost impossible not to speed, I mean 70mph is the California speed limit and on the stretch of freeway between Vegas and Los Angeles the average speed of traffic seems to be about 80. I have been making this trip about twice a month for over 15 years either on my bike or with a pick up truck. I usually go about 80 and have never had a ticket. The problem seems to be that many people like to kind of challenge the Porsche which doesn't happen when driving the pick up or even the bike. In any case the Porsche for some reason makes me to accept the challenge and have a little fun. I'm sure you by now know whats coming. I got stopped doing 101mph which seems effortless to say the least even if it was just for a moment. I never saw the cop, I was to wrapped with how nice the car felt and was not paying attention. The cop was really a nice guy and I hold no grudge for my f--k up. He wrote me for "exceeding 70mph" thats the actual charge but he did write "approximate speed 95mph on the ticket. He said it was only one point. Maybe I can get driving school and keep it off my record. I have no tickets on my record in last ten years as I don't get many and I did the driving school thing whenever I did. Well I figure that was good for probably somewhere around 600 dollars. When I got to Los Angeles I screwed up again, this time while parking I scraped my front bumper on a high curb while parking, barely touched it but it made grooves in the skin. I don't know if it can be filled and painted or if I should get a new bumper. In any case it will have to be fixed and painted or replaced and painted, I hate seeing it as it reminds me how stupid I've become. Anybody know what one costs, my guess is over 1000 dollars not painted. I'LL BRING IT TO A SHOP TOMORROW. Altogether its an expensive trip but I love the car. I'm mostly a bike guy so its kind of rare to have a car that I really like to drive just for the fun of driving.

I buggered up the aero front bumper on my car pretty good last year. Repair work on the cracks and respray was $900 out the door at a high-quality shop here. My wife routinely does this on many of our cars by pulling in too far when parking. I always remind her "you don't get extra points for parking closer to the curb". Of course she still does it anyway.
As for the speeding, I'm still pissed about the last two tickets I got - both were complete BS. One was for 35 in a 30 in the red 928. No school zone or construction zone - just a BS speed trap. At least you got to enjoy yours and in the end the punishment you got was the same as mine.

It might be lucky for me that most of the time I need to take the truck. I live to close to work to even get the Porsche warm so I don't get to drive it during the week as much as most of you. When I do its a treat and its fun, the car is a keeper. Believe me I'm always up for a reason to take the Porsche. I'll get the bumper fixed right away and then take care of the ticket, really no big deal in ones life just another minor bump in the road. I bet from now on I'll be completely aware when I park the car and I won't be speeding like that again in California. Here in Nevada we have many barren roads where you can see for miles and its safer to ring it out a taste without any problems.

Totally worth it. Minor crap happens when you actually use the car.
If the scratch is low and not super noticeable, just use some touch up paint.
Just about everyone speeds on the 15 by a large margin. 10mph over = slowest car on the road.
V1 is the way to go.

You are right about almost everyone speeds on the 15. The damage is low but I am one of those guys that will see the damage above all else every time I see the car. Its best for me to have it fixed LIKE NEW until the next time so that I'll be happy. I'm also one of those guys that once I spend the money I forget about it and am over it. You're right about minor crap and using the car. I can deal with that lots easier than not using the car. That would be like having a beautiful girlfriend and not having sex with her. I will put up with minor crap from her too if its worth it.

Those SOBs! Oh and having **** wrong on the car being an eye sore EVERY SINGLE TIME you walk toward it, I'm the same way. It's like once something is not right I can't focus on anything else.

I had 93 in 65 in San Francisco, on I280 going from CCSF to I-101. Cops love sitting in the side of the median there, and I knew that too. I was driving my red 5.0 mustang, playing checkers up to 115MPH. I was just slowing down for traffic when I saw the CHP on the side, and right there I told my passenger "I am ****ed". I didn't have the radar then
Officer was nice though, he complimented the mustang and gave me the 28 over ticket. It was something like $450. I decided to go to court and gambled on him not showing up, well...I come to court, my case gets called and no officer. Other cops says: "officer xxx got a flu". Judge looks at me ( I was maybe 20 then) and you could see that she really wanted to teach me a lesson. Asks me to come over and says "slow down, you got very lucky; case dismissed".

Do any of you speeder guys have a radar detector on board? A radar detector is as important as having brakes on a 911 IMHO. lol First pip pip from my detector and I am braking no matter where the signal is coming from. It may be coming from Walmart doors but when I hear the signal, my right foot goes into action. I have the radar set to 'City traffic' all the time. My detector 'acts up' some times. It told me that there was a 'train approaching' as I drove through Costcos car park. The nearest train lines are at least 5 miles from Costcos car park LMAO.

Having a car you LOVE driving is worth minor blips along the way like this! I would invest in a radar detector if you don't have one. I know that my Passport 9500ix has saved me more than once. V1 was the other I was considering, but I found a great deal on the Passport.
Lucky you. Sadly here in Mississippi traffic court is as bad as it is portrayed by Hollywood. It is really just a fee collection agency. If you don't have an attorney the judge just says, "Reschedule for 1 month from today." so the officer can be present.
I saw a guy with a ticket for switched plates (plate from another vehicle on his car) when actually the offense was expired plate. The judge said and I quote "He wouldn't have written you a ticket if you hadn't done something wrong. Pay at the window" then banged the gavel. You can't make this stuff up!

In California, tickets at 100 or over are a felony, and usually involve arrest and impound of the car. These are good things to avoid.
Being in the middle of nowhere, he probably didn't want to invest the time arresting you and having the car impounded.
Was your speed determined through pacing by the cop car, pacing by aircraft, or radar / laser?
