I wanted to share my experience with the housing for the K&N air intake housing. Since it was 40 degrees out today I decided to do quick was down of the engine bay when I noticed a lot of fine rubber shavings. Upon further review a bolt on the intake housing was rubbing in the drive belt. It maybe removed about 1.5 millimeters of rubber from the drive belt. It's a clean cut, but still enough I ordered a new belt already. I will also be replacing the bolts on the side of the drive belt to make sure this doesn't happen anymore.
Interesting...I literally just finished installing my K&N CAI intake into my 996.
I'll keep an extra eye onto it as I slowly rack mileage onto my car.
Glad your taking good caution in replacing the belt and bolts.
Glad someone read this, replacing the belt is easy, but more of a pain than anything. At least now I have 2 backup serpentine belts in the frunk!
When I installed mine and I checked clearances and everything looked fine. I remember being able to run a finger between the bolt and the belt. I wonder if the intake is flexing under load and pulling the shield into the belt. If I see it rubbing again I'll have it spot welded.
