Child Seats In A 996
Hi folks,
This question is geared towards the folks who have children and child seats in their 996.
I do not have children and have never used a car seat, nor do I know the general rules/regulations behind them. My aunt and uncle's family are heading up to Vancouver in June 2015 for a family vacation bringing along their three kids. The older one is eight years old and the twins are six.
They currently use a child seat in their minivan. Are child seats required in a 996? If so, are any special tethering attachment required? The kids have already asked me to take them for a ride and to have ice cream so I must oblige. I do not want to disappoint them!
Thanks!

You really want to adjust the seating position for size and weight. For kids that age a backless booster is usually fine in the rear seats. Just make sure the shoulder strap isn't positioned at the neck
The 'cosco no back booster' fits perfectly in the 996. They are currently $12.99 on target.com.

The 8 year old can sit in the existing back seats with no issues. The 6 year old children will need a booster seat of some sort. My daughter fits great strapped in the back seats at 44" and 40-45 lbs, but local law (USA) prohibits a child less than 8 years old or 80 lbs to sit in a standalone seat, so I bought a cosco high back booster and removed the bottom cushion. I don't really know which is safer. Its so tight back there that I think she would do just fine in the stock seat. They don't sit there often, and I don't drive very fast when the kids are in the car so I just follow the rules as is required.

My 4 yr old daughter sits in my 996tt. I believe there are only 3 brands of car seats (not booster seats) that fits the rear of a 911. I read the whole thread and did research on which one would fit. I picked one up for $50 or so from Target. I believe it was "cosco hi back booster hawthorne". I can verify after I get home and post a picture if you want. I too removed the seat bottom and back from the car before installing.

Folks,
Thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom. This will at least prepare me for when I have my own kids! But for now, I have to play the role of cousin to three energetic monkeys!

Installing the bar is simple, but you need a dealer to enable the function (don't know if Durametric will do it or not).
Its made to be used with the Porsche car seats, but there is a UK company that sells a blank for the buckle so you can use any seat.
My 3yr old loves riding in the 996 since he gets to ride up front.

I'd check the BC laws for age/weight in the front seat, if its like Ont the minimums are quite high. I put our 6 1/2 yo daughters in the rear on Canadian tire backless boosters and the shoulder belts sit properly on the shoulders.
