Where are the actual mounting points? any installation guidelines available?

I put a Speedware bar in my 996 a couple of years ago. I'm not sure if they have changed but at that time the main bar bolted to the upper shoulder belt mount. In addition, two baces extended down to small brackets that fit under the back, outside seat sliders. It's a pretty easy installation.

i thought that they went rearward in the car, such as to the rear seat mounts, or the child seat restraint locations.

I just took a look at their web site and they haven't changed. They still mount as described above. In terms of safety, I really don't like harness bars but if you are going to have one it should be directly behind the front seats and at the proper height.

BTW, as I recall, the bar did limit seat travel which might be a problem if you are tall.
