Supposedly, the OP "saved it in time" by turning it off and not trying to restart the car. The IMS was replaced, but I wonder if the car experienced any collateral damage. I sent the OP a PM, but he never responded. Guess we'll never know. ugh!

I felt the same way. My gut feeling is the car didn't last much longer after the shop replaced the IMS only to experience catastrophic failure from collateral damage as Jake Raby mentioned.

Sounds about right. Hard to believe an IMS failure would not damage a lot of stuff even if the bearing didn't come apart. Cheers brother.
