There appeared to be signs of coolant leakage (pink crusty residue) behind the oil pump body so he was replacing all the gaskets while he was in there.

Found the pic for 99 oil pump R&R in the older manuals which does show the lock pin in place locking the crankshaft. The text is not nearly as detailed as the real service manual in the .pdf for the 2002+.

Use a extra long Allen wrench in place of the oil pump shaft, thru the oil pump housing to align the IMS. This is a very tight fit so it won't be easy.
Do not rotate the crankshaft or the chain can come loose!
