Default Ouch!

I was fortunate to get in on the lid liner deal. The other day, I was washing my car and cleaning up the frunk when BAM!, lid hit me right on the head. Big ouch. Never happened before.

I was at the Cars and Coffee GTG with the Lone Star region and a friend of mine said he had the same problem and had to replace the front hood shocks. Seems that the additional weight is just enough to test the limits of the originals.

I went over to Pelican and ordered two. Too bad we couldn't have gotten a group buy on these at the same time as the lid liners...

I'm worried that someone besides me may get bumped even more seriously. Don't want to have to be wearing a hardhat when I wash the pCar. Be safe....

I had that happen to me once when getting my suitcase out of the frunk of my C4S on a cold day. It really hurt! I replaced the struts shortly thereafter.

On a related topic, I had my engine lid drop during an oil change and it broke the plastic oil filler neck which was in the extended position to add oil. If your front struts are shot, then your back struts are probably shot too.

Great advice, Dennis. In fact, I was thinking about doing that, since for another $30, I would have gotten free shipping from Pelican. I may call them up to see if I can change the order.

Probably just a coincidence rather than a fault of the extra weight. Had to replace our struts last year after the frunk tried to take my head off and we don't have a liner. The things just go bad as the age.

I also proactively replaced the one for the engine bay too.

More annoying was that i also had to do our 07 BMW trunk struts a month later. That car is too young to need them.

Thanks for the warning. I finally got around to installing my lid liner today and my frunk lid no longer stays up. Guess I'll be ordering a couple new shocks.

With the colder weather, the struts are weaker. That being said, I did the lid liner buy last year and noticed a similar phenomenon. However, the 996 frunk closing on you is nothing compared to one of our other cars. We've got an '06 MBZ S430 with an electric trunk opening and closing feature. The struts are failing on it, and once the car senses that the trunk is starting to close, the electric motor kicks in to assist in the closing. Talk about a guillotine!
