Question Trunk Configuration

Guys, I'm not a 996 guru but I've seen 2 different configurations of the way the spare is stored. 1) Upright against the back of the trunk (my current set-up), and 2) laid down flat at the bottom of the boot. The question I have is if this is year-specific and can the set-up be changed from one to the other. I personally prefer laid down flat in the trunk and would switch if I could. Plus it looks much more tidy.

C4 would have on-the-bottom spare while C2 would be upright.

Thanks guys! I'll check some photos to see if it's too much of a pain to switch.

The layout is not something you can change. It is a function of different running gear such as front differential and fuel tank layout that dictate. All 4 wheel drive models use a floor mounted/recessed spare while the 2wd version use the upright mount. Do a search and you will find tons of photos.

In addition to the spare laying flat in the trunk, the C4 also has a convex square plastic cap in the front trunk, under which you'll find access to the fuel pump. This makes the fuel pump a little more DIY-friendly than the C2.
