Angry Erratic Idle...

...car feels like it's about to stall, and sometimes does.

I've search the archives and seen this problem discussed here before but with no decisive reason has to why, or posters simply never got back with how the mechanic fixed their car. I did find the problem could be O2 sensor, MAF sensor, bad fuel or bad connections...

Has anybody had this problem and had the problem cured by the dealer or cured it themselves?

Thanks.

I haven't experienced this in the last few weeks, though before that it was happening from a cold start about half the time. It seems to have gone away on its own. But I don't consider the car "fixed".

I had the same problem...idle fluttered around like 500 rpm (low)
and felt like it was going to stall. My mechanic said that there was
a lot of bad fuel in the area and suggested I try a different gas
station--seemed to work for me.

Same thing happend to me after getting off the freeway. At the stoplight the car started to shake like there was an earthquake or something. I thought it was either going to blow up or stall. It was like that for several light and then when I got to an open road and another stop the problem was gone. Weird...

I'm certainly no expert, but if it turns out to be fuel I read a post a few months ago wherein someone suggested that you change gasloines (non-ethanol) every couple of times because each brand has different additives. By changing brands you don't cause one brands addititives to "build up" in your motor. Fact or fiction...I don't know, but I do change brands every few fillups..but then again, I'm paranoid

FWIW....I've only had my car for a month and have filled up gas at the same station everytime.

Service dept. ran codes and "camshaft out of alignment with crank" came up...? I'm thinking/ hoping this is simply a symptom and not the problem.

I had this problem recently. My mechanic (an independent porsche mechanic) found two issues. The main issue was a vacuum leak. The other was a problem with my air mass meter. Once these were fixed everything was fine. I also recovered a ton of power!

Seems the cam timing solenoid was the culprit...
