So did you pay retail/full price for them or did you get them at a discount? I found a 997 where the owner provided an Autocheck report that was clean; I pulled a carfax that showed a theft. I wanted a significant discount because I don't know what happened to it...I'll bet the DME report would show a huge amount of overrevs. Anyhow, the seller would not discount for the theft even though he had been trying to sell it for a couple of months.

My point is this; rebuilt title cars are far less desirable then clean title cars and that is why they sell at a discount. Can you rationalize paying full/clean title price for a rebuilt or salvage title car by assuming you will keep it forever? Sure you can. BUT, Porsche sold thousands of 996 C2s, so why pay retail for a rebuilt/salvage title car when there are plenty of clean title cars to choose from? For me, I will not pay more for something than what it is worth.

You might not pay more but many many more will but I got with knowledge of what I was buying
I bought my M3 on eBay 23years ago for 3500 my truck I paid 28000 both have had offers of 35 and 44 so I’m good when or if I sell
but my 996 I bought high 27 but I got a unique and clean example

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...1-carrera-194/

If the engine was replaced in 2009, would it have the unservicable bearing ?

No...seller said the engine was replaced in 2000, so that would mean it would have a serviceable bearing; the big question is whether is has a single-row for a dual-row bearing. Providing the engine number to a dealer should get you that info. However, there is a question for the seller about whether the bearing in the replacement motor has been upgraded to an IMS solution like the LN bearing. They are waiting the seller to answer; if the IMS in the replacement motor has not been replaced with an upgrade, you want to take that into consideration if bidding. Also, since this car has spent its life up north, bore scoring is a real possibility so take that into consideration.

"A replacement 3.4-liter flat-six was installed at Rietzl Porsche of Norwell, Massachusetts, in July 2009 at 44k mile"

Invoice shows a 2009 date

Sorry...post from seller in comments said 2000. If it was replaced in 2009, it should have the upgraded non-serviceable bearing. you can verify with the engine number.

I think it was a poor choice of words by the seller. They have service records dating back to 2000 is a better way to put it

The invoice isn't clear how the original engine failed. All I see is something about coolant
