^^ Yea, seriously $1900 is a stretch since the current owner sold off the tranny and motor. Looks like the hoods are gone. Wonder what's ripped out of the inside? As rough as the car is, the wheels are still in good shape. Talk about irony. Normally the wheels are the first things to get crapped out.

Got amped when I saw this one (I like white)... https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/6017244729.html until AutoCheck showed "left front impact with a median barrier" and the condion was listed as "frame damage" at auction after the accident. Another recently reported accident in 2016.
The passenger seat and steering wheel look terrible, but otherwise the car looks good.
I think $20k is high though. Maybe $17k is a good number to be worth a serious look.

Damage on the CarFax is not a death sentence. I think many prospective Porsche owners overlook nice cars because there is an accident on the CarFax. 996s and 997s are steel cars. Many have been raced and banged back into shape with no ill-effects. A friend raises a 997 in World Challenge. It's been bent a few times since he's owned it and it's still winning races.
A well-repaired Porsche 911 can be a very good buy. Think about it, people are paying $50k for 80's 911s. Many of those were probably bent at some time. Why would one pass on a previously bent, well repaired, 911 because of a collision listed on the CarFax? If the car checks out, drives well, and has most everything else you want, go for it. Save the money and enjoy the Porsche.
Do not let well-done repair work scare you off. Would you pass on a car that had a major mechanical issue repaired? Would you even know? Same for bodywork; you're not going to tape the CarFax up in a window.

In general, I agree, Darkhorse. However, I am not looking forward to wasted day off and wasted money of a PPI just to find out it was done wrong. The last car I made a deal on did have an accident reported, I took a chance on it and when it came to the PPI saw how badly the body work and paint had been done. I am, as they say "once bitten, twice shy".

Not bad for a 1999 aero car aside from it being a tip.

Many thanks to GNAT for helping me do a pre-purchase inspection on a 2003 Targa in the DC area this past week. If not for this thread, I would have never have contacted him and proceeded to move forward with my discussions with the seller. He invested his time and really supplied me with a lot of information about the car that neither the seller or a service shop PPI would have offered. The IMA Motorwerke guys were very helpful also in handling the technical issues and GNAT gave them a few "suggestions" to consider as they checked over the car.
I flew up on Saturday and purchased the car and drove it back to North Carolina. No issues on the drive and very happy with the purchase. My 928 now has a new garage buddy to keep it company!

Glad it worked out and I hope it gives that 928 a long companionship.
Now thanks to driving your car I need to scratch up the money for those Bilstein coilovers and PSE for ours
