Default STRANGE 996 TURN SIGNAL PROBLEM

Last evening was the first time I’ve driven my newly-acquired 2003 996 C4S at night, and I have a strange problem with the turn signals. When the headlights are turned on (or the parking lights for that matter), all 4 turn indicators (front/rear and right/left) illuminate steadily (not flashing) as well as the right and left turn indicators on the tach. While driving that way, when I try the turn signal stalk (on the steering column), the turn signals don’t flash. With the headlights turned on the emergency flashers won’t operate, but they do if the headlights are off. With headlights off, everything functions as it should.
The only thing I’ve done which might be a contributing factor is to wire the side markers into parallel with the turn signal circuits to flash with the turn signals [http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/album103].
Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, what was the cause and the solution/fix.
Thanks.

Check if any of your bulbs (Headlights, Tail lights, any) are out. If one of them is, that's most likely is issue. Replace and it should be fine.

Well, first thing to do would be to disconnect what you wired up and see if you're accidentally feeding power incorrectly into the circuit.

I'd also check the relays - but since you've modified the wiring for the system that's acting up, obviously that's the first place to look.

(If you have provided a way for power to get from the turn signals to the running lights, what's to keep the running lights from affecting the turn signals?)

I would most certainly back track your work and return the wiring to the original. That should cure the problem. If it does then rethink the correct way to DIY the effect that you want. Good luck. THOUGHT... Will the original flasher unit be strong enough to work both lights in your new configuration???? Just a thought. I don't know.

+1. I have done the same hack on my Boxster and never had issues. Double check the wiring that you did.

Problem solved. The instructions in that Rennlist thread are indeed correct. I misinterpreted them, and after re-wiring correctly, the side markers will now flash with the turn signals when the headlights are on.
