I used Car Audio Innovations (CAI). Rod the owner was extremely helpful for a diy install. He was also cost competitive with places like Crutchfield for the audio components. I must have made a handful of phone calls to Rod during my install asking various questions. Highly recomend them.

CAI includes the new lower bin to replace the cheesy CD holder...that bin is like 40 bucks so basically you are paying the same for both....and CAI i have heard has nice instructions and is helpful....

Same experience here. I got a kit from Rod at CAI and he was great.

I bought the kit and the extra storage bin from Suncoast and gave it to the very professional installers at Car Toys in Fort Collins Colorado. They said everything worked well in the kit.

Did you lose your cup holder with that kit?

I orginally bought the kenwood DNX690. When i received it from CAI, I didn't like the look of the **** on the side and Rod allowed me to return it and upgrade to the DNX890 - looks like the picture posted above

How does the faceplate attach on the cai kit? I got a kit that basically used friction to hold the faceplate on (didnt work well at all) then bought a kit from either metro. It works fine, but the faceplate curves out at the bottom, and id rather have a straight/flat face. Color/texture is really good though...
Can anyone post good/close pics of the install, esp on a mk ii?

I have a 996.1 ... here's the CAI faceplate in my car. It is custom made for CAI and snaps into place. IMO, color/texture/fit is pretty good and it has never moved or shifted on me. Basically, I installed the head unit, tested everything out, installed the faceplate, and declared victory.

My head unit is a Kenwood DNX6990HD; I bought the installation kit that Rod sells specifically for Kenwood head units. As you can see from the pic, I sometimes use an old school iPod for music.

It seems everyone goes with Kenwood units... any reason? I'm looking to replace the crappy double DIN JVC unit that came with my car with a touch screen head unit. I would prefer to have an actual volume "****" instead of up/down buttons... but if it means loosing an inch of screen size, I may just go with the push buttons for volume, etc.
Suggestions?
