Opinions on vinyl wraps
My 2002 Targa recently incurred some minor paint damage to the rear bumper. I'm looking at about $500 for a re spray. The paint on my car is decent, a few very minor scratches here and there and the nose had a mediocre re spray on it before I purchased it. I can get a vinyl wrap for about $2,000. I figure with a little TLC I could squeeze 5-7 years out of it. I'd plan on keeping it covered whenever I'd leave it at work. Plus a color change might be interesting as well. Opinions?

Do you plan on driving it in the MA winters ? I have heard mixed reviews on snow / salt. Otherwise it can last quite a long time if stored indoors, and washed gently. I don't think you need to leave it covered every day at work. What colour are you thinking ?

Next time you see someone with a wrap, asked them to open the doors, hood anf trunk. Most ofnthemmhave very sloppy work when it comes to these areas.

I have a friend who had his M5 wrapped. After 1-2 years, the edges really start fraying. He strongly recommended i stay away from wraps and just go for good paint protection -- ie. clearbra.
its too bad though my bumper has rock chips 2 months after just getting it repainted.

Wraps are harder to keep nice then a paint job. Bird crap almost immediatly leaves a nice stain and even dust if left on it under the hot sun cooks into it. Unless you plan on washing it very gently every other day then i would stay away from it.

Wraps are +/- $3000 generally and last 2 years (looking good) from there you'll start noticing imperfections and spots that need to be fixed. Its a lot of money for something that really doesn't last that long.
If the cost isn't an issue and you don't mind paying to fix spots here and there as it goes, it's a great option.
