Default Took my car for service.

Local shop in Northern Va. I needed an oil change, but asked them to check brake, coolant and power steering fluid. I was prepared to get them all flushed/replaced. Shop checked and said no need at this time. Should I have it done anyhow?

I follow religiously brake flush every 2 yrs and coolant every 4yrs. Power steering probably can last a long time since it's a closed system but I still replace my at 60k/10yrs.

I found it safest and effective by just siphoning out the steering fluid from the reservoir and refill with fresh. Repeat a couple of times if you want. This is safer than opening up the hydraulic lines where there's possibility of introducing debris. Also, it also avoids any bleeding issues.

Just follow the service intervals on the fluids and I bet you will be fine.

How long since you last did brake fluid, and do you do anything besides DD in the car?

If you don't know how long it's been, then yes, you need to do it.

Or buy a brake fluid test strip for a couple bucks and check it (and verify your shops conclusion).

Thanks all. I'll probably have the oil and coolant flushed over the next few months leading to winter.
