Default C4S tire question

Have an '03 C4S with Yokohama Advan Neova A08 all-round but the rears are near the wear-bars. I am contemplating either replacing all fours with Hankook Ventus V12 EVOs or replacing the rears Yokohamas.

Not considering price(which heavily favors the Hankook option), how much wear can the fronts have before simply replacing the rears is no longer an option, forcing a four-tire replacement?

Yokohama's are really noisy as well although their performance for my purposes has been great.

This may not be a relevant answer to your question. I typically replace my front tires after using up two pair of rear tires. I could probably run the fronts through a 3rd set of rears but I find the age of the tires definitely affects performance, especially noticeable on the C4S. On older front tires with plenty of tread the my car is known to activate PSM when cornering aggressively, which I find pretty disturbing. New rubber and I never have that problem. I only run N spec tires though so I have no experience with the brands you mention.

I am sure that others do and will pitch in.

SiloTwo, thanks for the input. That is the same information that I have read elsewhere as well, I am just not sure if there is a threshold at which point there is enough of a mismatch in circumference to cause issues. The Yokohamas were on the car when I bought it so I would replace the rears - not N-rated but well utilized by other P-car drivers.

I'm delighted with the V12 Evo II. Even better than the previous gen tire.

The general rule of thumb I've picked up with 996's is that the fronts will last approximately twice as long as the rears. The stack of spares I have bear that out (shot rears with healthy fronts).

As for the Hankooks, I've run that tire as the summer tire on two of my cars now, and I've been pleased. I never had a set on my 996 though, as it was wrecked before I needed new summers. Will they have the all-out performance of a PS2 or similar? No, but for my needs as a fun daily driver, they fit perfectly. And I always get them from Tire Rack.

ju8st something to think about......on a AWD car I would not mix and match treads from front to back.

+1. I was wavering back and forth about them versus another set of Sumitomo HTR Z III, but I went for the Michelin's. Had them for about two months and really enjoy them.

The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 is BY FAR the best tire I've ever had on my 996 C4S. I've tried Pirelli, Hankook and Sumitomo. They are expensive, but they are nice.

I ordered them from TireRack (good) and had them shipped to a "preferred installer" (bad). If I had to do it again, I'd ship them to myself and take them to a shop I actually like to do business with.

TireRack does not have the EVO2 in stock in the rear size right now so either I wait, go for the K110 Hankook(v12 Ventus EVO), replace the rear Yokes.

The most predominant theme seems to be Michelin PS2

+1 get some PS2.

The day I got PS2 N3's back on my car (after using a set of cheaper tires) corners put a smile on my face
There's more expensive... for some (good) reason !

+1 PS2's. I got one N4 spec rear at costco for $497 with nitrogen and road hazard. Not sure about the fronts.
