Default carbon Fiber Steering Wheel

Stock carbon fiber steering wheel has the typical cracks in the clear. Installed an all leather wheel for now. What are the options for the wheel?

Has anyone had these repaired and they last? Any other options?

from what I remember they cannot be repaired unfortunately.
you have to switch to another wheel.
the carbon is not standing the test of time and all carbon part will crack one day or another, especially if exposed to direct sunlight.

Mine is cracked and has been since I bought it nearly 8 years ago. Good news is it hasn't gotten any worse. I'm so used to it now I don't even think about it.

I think every I've ever seen is cracked.

is it just the clear coat? You can sand that down and re lacquer or apply new resin, sand and polish. take a look at the tutorials of how people make their own CF trims. But it's a bit of a PITA I'm sure.

If it's just the clear, and you don't want to do it yourself, I imagine any body shop could sand and refinish that for not a ton of $$...

DCT Motorsports in California

http://www.dctms.com/product_ST_PCH_996_986.html

They rebuild/modify steering wheels.

I have not dealt w/ them, but have a buddy in CA that has. Said the work was perfect.

No good solutions. I wonder if someone would buy it for a core exchange?

Just an FYI. The wood steering wheels suffer from the same issue. The clear on my wood steering wheel cracked too.

Guess I'm lucky. 15 years and mine still looks new.

They have the steering wheels with simulated CF and wood finishes like they use on RUF and they do not crack. The finishes are seamless and the rest of the steering wheel is leather wrap.

The aluminum look wheels also have this issue. Mine was replaced under warranty, and so far the new one hasn't cracked.
