PLease help (Newbie) my trunk has decided to stop working, Battery is fine starts car and the engine cover opens too.
The Trunk started playing up now and then ie would not open then half an hour later it would be fine.

Open up passenger side wheel well liner and you will find a steel cable which is the emergency backup to opening up the Frunk manually. After you get it opened, reroute this cable so it's more easily accessible the next time you encounter an emergency.

I've routed mine so it can be neatly tucked up in the bumper but can be pulled down from the front grill when I need it.

Your welcome. You basically want to undo a couple fasteners that hold the shroud down by the frunk latch. After you remove this trim piece, you will be able to see and access the cable which you can fish down through the bumper. You might also find it easier to remove the passenger headlight(easy to do with factory headlight removal tool found with your factory tools) first. Sorry but I really don't take pics anymore like I used to back in the 90's when car forums were a new concept and the novelty was still there.

If you work the latch release button and hear something from the front trunk lid latch area the problem could be a broken latch or a worn latch. (With my Boxster I can hear the front trunk latch working when I push the unlatch button but the trunk doesn't jump up that fraction of any inch like it used to. But I can reach down and with my finger tips pull the lid up enough to work the safety release. The latch is probably wearing out.)

If you work the latch release button but do not hear anything from the front trunk latch the latch solenoid could be bad, or the button is bad or the wiring from the button to the latch is bad.

Caution: There could be a bad fuse. (I know there is a fuse that controls the engine compartment of my 996 Turbo. I found this out the hard way when I removed the fuse for the spoiler as the spoiler was leaking and I wanted to disable it until I could book the car in to get the thing fixed. But I was unable to open the rear trunk lid with the spoiler fuse removed.)

I had the same seemingly intermittent issue with my C2 and it was the release solenoid. I had it diagnosed and replaced by the dealer and I "think" the bill was around $200.00 parts and labor.

I had the same issue. Drove me nuts until I figured out it was the solenoid. Very straight forward repair. It only took about 10 mins. If memory serves it was a $60 part from the dealer.
