Highflow catalytic x-pipe setup question
Theoretically, it's suppose to keep the heat in which in turn keeps the exhaust velocity up. Same as if you heat wrapped the pipes. It makes it look purdy and keeps the corrosion away as a side benefit.
As to your other question regarding X vs crossover pipe, there's been more than a few manufacturers that basically says the x design enhances the sound because it's merging both banks together(subjective of course), making it smoother but also quieter than the crossovers. The downside is you may experience a loss of torque below 4k but more than make up for it in the higher rpms(mostly suitable to track cars). Once again, ymmv depending on your supporting mods and ecu tune and whether you have 200 cell cats which minimizes this loss vs. catless. There's a handful of dyno comparisons floating around the net.
