Default Bought iPad mini for GPS - In car holder?

So instead of forking out thousands for a new in-car GPS (hey this is Switzerland so everything is expensive) and have it installed by pros' I bought an iPad Retina mini with A-GPS instead for the car.

I do want to keep my 2002 C4S as original as possible, and that includes keeping the PCM 1.0 16 bit, the old type phone handset, the 6 CD changer in the front etc so I'm happy with this solution (I even got a cassette to mini-jack for my 160Gb iPod which works fantastic), contrary to what I wrote in a different post some time back (change of heart)...

So, now I'm wondering if anyone knows of a bracket/holder I can get for my iPad Retina so I do not have to sit with it in my lap? I do not want to drill or use sticky tape...

Cheerio,

//F

C'mon... Surely someone must have tried out something similar or have a work around somehow ;-)

I did a custom in-dash mount on my 996, but built a very simple but also custom magnetic mount for our new Q5...

I've also done several mounts with Ram mount components (F150, Touareg, etc).

996 in-dash iPad Mini...

Q5 iPad Mini Magnetic mount... My new favorite way to mount iPad mini's and iPhones

This is with an iPhone 5, but I'm now using an iPad mini in the same spot.

PanaVise makes custom metal brackets for different cars, but alas not for the Q5 which is why I made my own similar bracket. Here's the 996 version. Could be used either as a base for a Ram cradle or as a magnetic mount.

Ram mounts can be used in lots of different configurations, including a simple but strong suction cup mount. I use them on several other vehicles...

I've used both ProClip and Ram Mount. To me, they are for different purposes. If I were mounting for day to day, I'd go with ProClip.

I have an LG something-or-other tablet with a with a case that has a protective front flap. So of course the flap is as tall and wide as the tablet.
I insert the flap in between the bottom of the stereo and the top of the CD storage.
It looks okay, is easily removable when I park in an unfamiliar place, and stays put in all but the sharpest maneuvers. Best of all, it costs nothing.

@pfbz looks absolutely superb with the iPad mini "built" into the 996 dash... I have see this elsewhere as well, but not quite ready to take that plunge - also I want to keep the car as original as I can.

I was thinking about the bracket thing as well, but again I feel it takes away some of the aesthetics of the interior...

Maybe I should just stick to the missus to hold the iPad for me when driving ;-)

Hey!
I use this type of tab headrest when I go for vacations with my kids. It handles my favorite Ipad very nicely. I am happy with this product.
