Has anyone who had the Cup Areokit (for 01 and earlier 996's) intalled left the "Gurney lip" off the spoiler? Is the lip truly functional? The body shop messed mine up and the dealer suggested I leave it off. Comments?

it generates a considerable amount of downforce, but unless you hit triple digit speeds you may not notice the difference much.
i would get it put back on because the Aerokit I had a notorious problem of high speed stability and lift as it is...

On the factory aerokit this part was painted to match the rest of the car. However, on the GT3, this part was left flat black (as was the front spoiler lip). So you have some choices when replacing it on if you want to get it painted or not.
Definitely get it replaced if you are planning any track work with this car.
