I live in NJ and the state requires front and back plates.Curious if anybody goes about with a front plate either in NJ or a state with the same requirement? Have the police bothered you and what are the penalties? I cant stand ruining the front end.

I live in NJ and I removed my front plate a few weeks ago. My car is not a daily driver so I guess that reduces my chances of being hassled. HAve not had a problem and I have passed several cops. I don't think you will get pulled over for just that. However if you get stopped for speeding or another moving violation the cop may decide to bust your chops. Just my $0.02

I live in Ohio where front plates are required. I have not had one on any of the 4 Porsches I have driven here, all of them daily drivers. I have never been hassled, even when stopped for 104 in a 65

I'm in MA and don't use a front plate. Even passed annual inspection. I carry the front plate under the passenger mat and have the little mounting thingys in my glovebox. Figure if I'm ever stopped I'll try and tell them I'm just waiting for a part from the factory to replace a "broken" mount.
I've also investigated the possibility of taking a full size pic of my license plate, print or transfer it to some easy-off vinyl and just slap it on the front bumper. Would adhere to the form of the bumper and still "show." Probably not legal, but ingenious, don't you think?

Live in NY and have gotten 1 ticket for no plate while I was parked on the street in Manhattan from a fat meter maid. Never gotten pulled over for it though. From now on, I just don't park on the streets and haven't had a problem. I do keep the plate under the rear floor mat though.

Mumanoff,
Yeah as stated, if you're caught speeding and the cop has a bug up his butt, he might call you on it (think its like $55 ticket in NYC). But for the most part, you won't get pulled over just for that...tho Don's idea is great, keep it in the car and if they ask tell em you're ordering it. Meter maids on the other hand are an entirely different story, basically don't park your p-car on the street in NYC (aside from a ticket you could end up having to repaint your bumpers)...

Best way to judge it in NY... we had a meet with abotu a dozen guys from this board... not one front plate in the lot. I don't even have holes in my bumper, had them filled when it was painted. I have only had to pay a "no front plate tax" once so far, but my car is not on the street much. The Boxster has on because there is a scratch behind it and I have not wanted to deal with it yet.

In Ohio if you haven't had an infraction for one year anything over 10 over is 2 points only. The fine was $145, mail-in.
