Default Updated Navigation CDs for PCM 2 2013 Maps

Hi All,

For anyone wondering about the 2013 update for the CD based PCM 2.0 navigation system, I bought them through my dealer last week and I am very happy. I wanted to keep my stock system and although they were little pricey at $235 (before PCA discount) it was worth it to me. The integration with the display below the tach is cool etc..

I also was not aware, since I bought the car used with out any CDs, that once you load the CD for your area you can remove it and use the CD player.

Now to find a bluetooth music solution for a reasonable price (not $500!).

Hope this helps someone.

Dan

I just did the update to PCM 2.0 in my Cayenne. It was a needed update, that's for sure.

One part of the car I FOOKED-up on was the navigation. I spent 6 months trying to get the CDs for PCM1-16bit and paid $165+shipping per CD. They work quiet well, but all newer roads are off the map. Very jealous of the people with PCM 2s.

I just got the updated 2013 CD for my Acura, paid $100 from the dealer. Cannot be happier with it.

Funny how many bad mouth the PCM 2 nav or the Porsche nav in general, but for me it works great, even the interface BUT it is very similar to the Garmin units in the planes I fly, twist/bump way of navigating the menus of the same era. Only problem is I can't trim the 996 or set the autopilot so I can be head down looking at the nav unit unless I have my wife drive which isn't as fun in the 996 or the plane!

I agree that it gets the job done most of the time, but it's outdated technology. I didn't realize how outdated it is until we bought a new Audi this year. Technology has improved in the last 10 years...

Well of course but you shouldn't have bought the new Audi and instead gone flying in a ten year old plane ($150,000 value) and you would get my point. I mean how much more fun is the Audi with the new nav vs your 996, I bet then10 year old plane beats the Audi

Dennis, for me the main issue is the address database and having all the roads on the map.

Acura system in my 03 TL is a touch screen system, Acura used same system since 99. It is damn near idiot proof and works perfectly on any terrain. It even has most of the dirt roads. It lets you enter destinations on the move and is extremely intuitive. With 2013 map update, system is 100% functional and useful everywhere in the country.

PCM 1 has horrible button twisting interface for street entry, city selection, category selection and everything else. It is a decent guidance system when it has the destinations correctly, but in AZ there have been 100s of miles of new roads built since 2002, so half of the time system is hopelessly lost. I can be driving on the freeway past recent development in North Phoenix and system just has I17 freeway on the amp. I would be OK with the hardware part of the system despite its obvious drawbacks if software was updated up to 2012/2013. Without updated software it is becoming more and more obsolete by the year.

It might be time for an upgrade to an aftermarket unit.

I would agree with that and if it is PCM 1 is it still MOST? If its not MOST then its a no brainer to get an aftermarket unit. I wasn't by any means saying the PCM 2 with the newer maps was the best solution, just letting people know that are in my shoes who don't want to spend $1000-$2000 to replace system because of the stupid MOST that the 2013 maps, even though they are expensive, are relatively speaking pretty good solution for NAV.

PCM 1.0 is not a MOST system. I think the map update is also nice for people who want to keep their cars in a stock condition.

There was a 2012 worldwide update for PCM1 16bit (possibly 8bit as well) that works great for me. The same base nav system is used in Opel cars here in Europe and legacy support is still a go for them. Not sure if Porsche has the updates but I was able to find them on the Internet. I love the old school map graphics on the PCM1 and now with updated roads all is well

Worldwide Update? I thought it was just Europe? Doing a quick search I couldn't find USA maps anywhere online....anyone know where I might find it?

Would updating to PCM 2.0 allow to stream audio from your phone to the car audio? Currently, only phone part is connect on my 2013 Cayenne.
Thanks!
