Has anyone had experience with K40 dual sensor radar detector? Orginal price $1200. A friend has given me his it was a '92 model. I am going to install it this weekend.

I had one installed in my '01 C4 and it seemed to work great -- saved me a couple of times. When I traded into an '03 C4S i opted for the V1 instead of spending the money on a K1 and it too works well but the cops know you have it . . .

Agree with NiveK...get a V1 and don't waste your money on anything else!

My experience with K-40 was bad. The install was very clean but the technology is very dated. It falsed so much that I kept it off around town where I do most of my driving. Eventually something else went wrong on it and even when I tried to use it on trips, it would beep every 15 seconds. I never ripped it out of the car but started using a V1.
I would be very concerned about using 11 year old technology. It won't have laser protection, for sure, and it may not pick up the newer bands of radar. Having a bad radar detector is worse than having none at all, because it gives you a false sense of security.
Get a V1.

fwiw, when i went to have a radar installed in my car, both the dealer and the independemt shop they recommended were pushing the K40 heavily. I asked them about the high falsing problems, and they said they thought K40 had solved those problems, but couldn't really add anything else. For the money that a stealth install costs, i didn't feel comfortable using something so many people had said was no good. (i went with a stealth install with the new srx system and have been extremely pleased).
i guess your issue is that you have the K40 unit already? maybe you can sell it to someone who doesn't have any reservations about it, and get what you really want. even though you have the K40 already, the install still isn't going to be cheap, and it will be even more expensive if you end up having to get another system anyway. just my .02

I have SRX. I am EXTRTEMELY pleased with it. Yes, it's costly, yes install takes 9 hours at the dealers, but its stealthy and very effective.
