Rattle white smoke
2002 C4 Cab. Pulling out, gear popped out of 2nd (normal), car shudders, engine starts rattling, white smoke from right exhaust....

The same symptoms you described except maybe white smoke should be on BOTH exhaust and not just the right one. One mode of failure of AOS is it sucks the coolant into the throttle body so the coolant burns and appear in the exhaust.
If you're sure the exhaust is only on one side, then it's possible you have a cracked head, which is not common on MkII.
Have you checked your coolant and engine oil for any sign of intermix?

Don't restart the motor till you get a qualified Porsche mechanic to look at the car.

Dropped car at shop. Turned key to unlock the wheel. Notice that oil level shows maximum (it was half full before) and coolant level light comes on. Code shows a misfire.

There was a post a while back in the 997 forum, same symptoms, smoke only on one side ( right exhaust, do you mean passenger side?) engine rattle, ended up being cracked piston...
If it is passenger side exhaust, that means left 1-3 cylinder bank (drivers side). The cooling circuit travels through 1-3 bank first and than gets to 4-6 later so if your water pump lost a blade, it would get stuck in 1-3 bank and end up creating a hot spot and cracking the head... Not sure how much rattle there would be though..
How many miles on your car? Did you have the water pump changed?
Sorry to hear this, hope I'm wrong and that it's just a spark plug that stopped firing...
