Default PSE Install

Hi Everyone

Just wondering..

How many hours labour do you save if you just have the dealer install the PSE without any fancy switches or auto shut off?

Basically just the mufflers.

Does the dealer have to do anything special to the muffler so that the bypass valves are not used?

thanks

from what i heard here in LA, if u don't want the switch that'll at least save u half of the labor fee. i got mine installed by the dealer and they charged me 7hrs labor. when i asked them why, they told me there are some wiring stuff that needed to be done (i have the switch... i never use it.) and it's not a quick job.

i know that's not a very reasonable price just to install a exhaust system, but the wiring stuff i have to turst the dealer. if u don't want the switch, the best price to install it is $140 here by a local shop.

good luck!

I had the PSE installed sans wiring for $200 by an independent Pcar shop. Most of the time for the installation centered around the alignment of the exhaust tips to make sure they were level and extended from the back of the car by the same distance.

The time to install might have been extended by the glare/reflection given off by the new twin exhaust tips

I'm having my cats replaced under warrantee, and I'm taking the opportunity to replace the mufflers with PSE.. My dealer estimates 3 hours worth of labor to install the PSE without the electrics if that's all they had to do. I assume double that with the electrics. Labor cost is $79.00/hr.

Question

Anyone want to sell me their original exhaust cheap?
I've got a 99 that needs a new muffler.

Installing a PSE w/o electronics is about 1 hour. Installing with electronics is about 10 hours -- no joke. You have to remove the seats and part of the interior to route wires from the rear of the car to the dash. My DIY instructions are here

Wow. I hour. The service dept may be trying to gouge me. Either that or they don't really know what they are doing and it will take them 3 hours to figure it out. Good thing it's going to be included in the warrantee labor since the exhaust is coming down anyway. Looks like it's time to invest in the service manuals.

Pete, I don't think you'd want my old exhaust/mufflers. Car already has 16k miles. May not even be worth the cost of delivery.
