So looking at the headlights, has anyone noticed that the ambers on the 99 almost seem painted on? There is clear plastic under it and there is an extra thickness due to the ambers.

Has anyone tried sanding that amber down/out?

I love the 996 front end look, just want the ambers gone.

They are much better than the single rows with a failure rate of 1%, however, I did not want to risk it especially with the mileage of the vehicle. Rather safe than sorry, and I plan on heavily tracking the vehicle for open lap days and any PCA/POC events.

Hey Congrats!
I see the car has Cali license plate, did you go pick it up or have it shipped?

I mainly bought this 996 as a DD and weekend track toy to test our Porsche BBK line up on it.
Does Sparta have a brake kit application for the 996 yet? The web site doesn't seem to have any application details...
( Really should talk to the Marketing Manager about that :-)

Maybe set up a Rennlist 996 brake kit group buy once things get sorted?

pcst: I flew down to SF and purchased it there then drove up. Still need to get it registered here in WA though.

Haha, I would if I could. The boss has asked us to not put up our application guide as our hard launch for products actually begins mid May. At that point, our application chart will be uploaded on to the website and we'll be good to go.

As for the group buy, I may be able to work something out, personally. But I need to speak with Rennlist first regarding vendors etc. as I do not want to be breaking an forum rules.

But as I had asked before, has anyone ever tried sanding the amber out of the 99 headlight housings? It seems to be painted on top of a clear housing.

Also for you guys here, what's your opinion on putting this wheel in? I saved the wheel from my previous car. It's a real wood grain 3-spoke nardi.

No input on the amber lights... I have an '04.

Can't say I'm a fan of that wood Nardi wheel in a 996 either. I just don't think it would look right on your car.

Maybe see if you can find a used 3-spoke 996 wheel? Standard 2002 and later, optional on the MkI's. And no issues with the airbag light...

the early 99's (produced in 98) have amber's that are NOT removeable. The boxsters 986's have those also. You'll have to buy new headlights to get rid of those.
To use that steering wheel, you'll need adaptor/hub and airbag resistor. work bell i believe carry the correct parts.

geetee, every one says it's not removable however if you take a close look at the headlight you can see that the amber has clearly been painted/layered on to the bottom portion. You can fee the difference in thickness, lip, and clearly see where it fades out to clear. So I'm just curious if anyone has tried sanding them down partially to get to the clear area.

As for the 3 spoke OEM, I'm not a fan of the OEM 3 spoke. If anything I'll go with an OMP.

if you sand it down, you may be the first...if anyone would have done it, it would be the boxster guys and I don't remember anyone doing that. You can check with 986forums
