Default WTB a 2004 996 40th Anniversary Edition

I am a new member here and I am looking for a 40th 996. I am in California so trying to keep my search to Ca/Az/Nv. I am looking for 50k miles and under, I see what people are asking but I also see them listed forever at those prices. What are these cars really selling for in 2014? Thank you guys for your time, Frank

Not sure where in CA you are but this is in Redwood City. It seems pricey and they have had it for quite sometime. I was going to look at it but I have seen Turbo prices starting to drop into this range. If the link doesn't come through look on Cars.com and search for an 04 911 it will be there, the car is at Carlsen Porsche. There is another one listed in the Rennlist classified for 35K in AZ and there was one on ebay in WA for 29K.

I think price is very dependent of where you live. In S. FL I could sell my car after 3.5 yrs of use down here and break even or make a small profit. I would Say $35k is a fair price +/-

Thank you all for your input so far. I know the car is "rare" but I don't think it is worth $40k for the miles I am looking for......I can get a 4s for that price or a newer 997 and getting close to a turbo? I was thinking $30k is about the right price. Frank

had to make that choice when I bought mine - thing to remember is that a 40th is arguably a better car than a 4S.
You get the same interior upgrades than the 4S and the performance is way better (2WD + most 4S don't have the X51 engine package).
So unless you are set on having a widebody the 40th is the better value.

Same compared to a base 997 - X51 puts you in the same ballpark power wise but the 996 is much lighter.

Then turbo is different game. Turbos prices are going down much slower than the NA (even vs. the C4S). I almost bought a low mileage TT in 09 for $43k when the price tank due to the crisis, and I could have sold it back 5yrs later for almost the same price :-)

For what it's worth my 40th anniversary is for sale for $29k and change with 63k miles, but I am prepared to get a lower amount if it takes too long to sell.

Only issue is finding a car in that same price range that gives you as much of a complete package. E46 M3 is not exactly as classy and CLK63 is not as sporty.

I was really looking for a 4s but then I started reading about a 40th and it has some cool features like the paint and the engine HP, but it is a narrow body.......so I am up in the air on what one I want, but for now I am trying to talk myself into the 40th. Frank

I agree on the x51 in the 40th AE and and full leather are hard to bear. I made the decision to go fully loaded 996 40th AE w/x51 over a low option or non x51 997 and have not regretted it. Also, I know C4 and C4s are nice looking because of the wide body but there is a price to pay in extra wright and complexity.

Finally, 996 GT3 is a narrow body which is good enough for me

Don't forget you get LSD on the 40th as well. My understanding is that LSD was only available as an option on '99s and n/a after that.

I was in the same boat as you before. 4s with the hips, or 40th with all the "good" options and a narrow body. I choose the 40th.

I should sell mine! I'm in the Bay Area. RMS and LN bearing is done. And a new clutch at the same time. All with less than 1k on it. (No time to drive the car. Though I did take it out this past Sunday for a nice drive with the wife)
