Default Power Steering Leak

While i was figuring out how to replace the front suspension , i noticed that i might have a leak on my power steering system, right at the end of the steering column. Anybody have anything similar happen to them or now how to get rid of it? Looks like it's been there for a while judging by the underbody cover. Thanks.

Again... Not an expert, but just had something similar happen. Somewhere a seal is bad. I needed a new rack for $1400 from the dealer. You can get a reman rack for half that and DIY.

Make sure the fluid level stays up or you could lose the pump also.

The fluid level barely changed, it must be a very slow leak. Never an easy, cheap way out on these things Thanks, you are probably bang on. Probably will get a reman unit and DIY. ~$300 - $400 hit

I wouldn't worry too much about it if there's no dripping and the fluid level is fine. The stain doesn't look fresh. Could be old leak from before. Perhaps just clean it up and keep an eye on it.

Hmm, ok, might give that a try. I cleaned it with some break cleaner. Looks new. Will keep the underbody cover off and check after a few short rides. I may be lucky. Thanks.

I bought a reman a few years ago to replace my leaking rack and it started leaking not so long afterward (a bit longer than the warranty period IIRC).

A respected tech I talked to said this was to be expected. He suggested that I buy a used rack from a low mileage car - which I did for only $150 or so.

So far, so good.
