Default Transmission mount question

Transmission carrier question.
My car 2004 40th AE has 68k miles on it and I will be installing RSS engine mounts this month. I started thinking I should do transmission mount at same time so I picked up some Function First (yellow) inserts.
Now, my question is should I just install the FF1 inserts into my old 996 transmission mount carrier or pick up the new upgraded 997 part (997.375.033.03) and install the FF1 into that? I see that the 997 part is only about $200.00 which in the scheme of things is not that big of a deal.

Do the FF insert fit both 996 and 997 mounts? If so, I'd go 997 route to refresh it

That is what I was thinking too might as well since will be there already and from FF1 site looks like 996.2 and 997 is same part.

The Carrera (manual transmission) models don't utilize a removable trans mount carrier like the Turbo/GT models. The trans mount bushing is pressed into the transmission housing, so it's not something that can just be unbolted.

I'm glad you asked this question because I always read references to replacing the C2 mount with the "upgraded version" you specified, but all my research indicates the upgraded mount is for the TT and will not fit the C2 before MY2005 and then only the Tiptronic.

So let's settle this once and for all - If anyone has actually installed this mount on a 996 C2 manual transmission please respond with your experience.

Really it's on Suncoast Porsche as a C2 996/997 part 997.375.033.03 and looks like replaces the whole carrier assembly

It definitiely does not look like a replacement for the OE Manual Carrera2/4/Targa carrier! It definitely looks like the one on the Tiptronic.

This is why I asked for anyone who had actually installed one and not someone who is guessing, assuming, read it on the forum, etc...

The carrier type assemblies (as linked to in above post on Suncoast) are only utilized on 996/997 Turbo/GT (non-PDK) and 996.2/997.1 Carrera Tiptronic models.

.........and if you plan on replacing your mount with the correct 996 # you will need to remove your transmission. To get the new one in you will need a shop press.

Sneaky Pete,

If you refer to the rubber bit, I can't find any entry for it in the 996 parts catalog. Are you sure it's available as a separate P/N?

Check sneaky's thread "need to drop motor". He has a great pic of the trans mount that he cut out and you can see a new one needs pressed in.

Not dropping transmission, so FF1 insert it is. Plus, I save $200
