Who runs radar and what brand?
My first radar detector was the original "Snooper" I had in my Fiat Spider back in 1977. Don't remember it being much good. Up until I purchased my 996 a year ago I'd been running a Passport 8500 for at least 12-14 years with excellent results (ie NO TICKETS) My 996 came with a Passport SRX and from what I've been able to find out it was their top of the line unit from several years ago retailing for an outlandish $1,499 not including install. I'm still ticket free but for some reason don't have the confidence in the Passport SRX that I had in my faithful Passport 8500.

I've run Escorts/Passports since the early 80s and currently have the 9500iX that has GPS to recognize and then lockout false alarms by location.
I've tried the V1 but still greatly prefer the Passport.

If you do a search, there will be a long exhaustive and still relevant thread about it that was just talked about a few weeks ago. I'm not aware of any new gizmos that's come out since.
I can spoon feed you the link if that would help.

I have a custom installed Passport 9500ci with laser jammer in my Mercedes and a Passport Max in the 996. I used a Valentine One in a previous car and got rid of it in favour of the Passport 9500ix because while the arrows on the V1 were nice, it kept alarming on everything which meant that I would ignore it. I like the GPS learning of the Passport. I may do the custom install in the 996 in order to do the laser jammer.

I ran the Passport 8500 for years without a ticket until finally purchasing the Escort Smartradar with iPhone app. I've run this setup for a year now, with good results. The detector still sits up high next to the mirror, but because it has no display lights, it is stealthy. The iPhone sits down at the radio level. I am kind of disappointed that the Live information doesn't work as well as Waze does, but the detector itself is VERY good at sniffing out Ka band. Theoretically I can run BOTH Waze up front and the Escort app will run in the background...but I think this causes a second or two of lag if the app is running in the background, so when I am really pushing the limit...I keep the Escort app up front at all times.
Now I see that the V1 has an iPhone app...so if I had not already invested in the Smartradar...I would have probably gone with the Valentine 1.
This is a lot of ramblings so hopefully I put some useful tidbits in here. I've been running radar detectors almost since I started driving at 16 back in the 80s and have only had 1 speeding ticket in 25 years of driving. That one was due to me being totally ignorant of the speed limit(I thought I was in a 75 and turns out I was in a 65)...and then not paying attention to the radar detector's warnings...and plus my truck at the time was running way taller tires than stock...so my speed was actually 5-6mph OVER what my speedo said....Ouch!

I've used V1's ( http://www.valentine1.com ) for about 10 years now and haven't had a ticket since I started using them. I love the arrows and the dual sensor system they use. However, even in advanced logic mode, they do give false alerts when I pass by buildings that use radar in their alarm systems. I wish they would come out with a model that could use GPS to exclude these.
