Default 2000 996 Cluster LCD Problem

I did the OBC Hack today. All three of my LCD's were all perfect before I unplugged the cluster from the harnesses. Just after unplugging them I could see my MPH and Clock LCD's appeared to have crystals in them, almost like something got in them and froze. After completing the hack and plugging them back in it looks horrible as if the LCD is broken but it is not. I took the cluster back or and disassembled down to the LCD's and inspected the displays and nothing seems to be wrong or broken but can still see the imperfections in them even when off. What could have happened by just unplugging them. Battery was disconnected and was very gentle when disassembling. Will this go away or did something happen? Anyone else have this happen?

This "crazing" is due to a loss of liquid crystal and/or air infiltration. They will only get worse and the only fix is to either replace the cluster or buy a cluster and have a professional swap the LCDs.

Do you know if the mileage will carry over to a new cluster of if it will show the milage of the cluster I buy. I have pretty low milage and don't want a cluster with higher mileage.

Using an EPROM programmer, you can copy the code from your existing cluster to the new one (mileage, VIN). If you decide to go through the effort (actually pretty easy), I can email you an instruction PDF.

Emails sent.

It's actually a word document, BTW. Sorry for any confusion

Document was also passed to me by KevinH1990. Thanks Kevin!
