Just saw an older episode where a guy tries to sell a 996 engine. Kind of funny.

Is that what you get when you order a Porsche engine from a junkyard, sight unseen?

Porsche junk yard engine will be the same as ANY other engine from the junk yard. Replacing motors with ones from wrecked cars is SOP in normal car brands.
If "porsche premium" didn't apply, nobody would make a big deal out of it. The way things are with 996 pricing, to me it makes no sense from money stand point. 996.1 and early 996.2 can be had for $15k, used motors on E-bay are $7-11k, F6 rebuilt is $20k. Money math makes no sense to me, perhaps because I am being rational with my cars; IE car is a car, it has one function and that function is to drive me to places. I know if my 996 ****s the engine, it gets donated to goodwill the next day. With 986 cars it is even worse, as they can be had for $5k, so 986 is reached the Phaeton level of absurdity. As car is worth more as pieces then as a whole.
