Default Build sheet from VIN

This might be old news but Suncoast Parts has a VIN decoder service that gives you the build sheet info. This is useful if you are unable to look at the "kardex" or sticker inside the hood (for instance if you're trawling through online ads.) Unfortunately it costs $10 (choose $0 for shipping when you checkout), but if there is a particular VIN that you're interested in, it might be worth it. Here's an example of the data that you get (I've asterisked out some identifying information):

Vehicle-Ident.-Number (VIN)

You can then use an option code decoder like Kindel or Stuttcars. If you just plug in the first set of M numbers (with the English descriptions) the decoders do not recognize option packages like P15. I found the Motortrend 2002 Porsche 911 Packages and Options to be useful in this regard. You should use the correct one for your year since they can change.

Hope this is useful for others.

This used to be a free service but like so many other things Porsche, the price went up.

I used this site and it is free, it works for 1995 and newer Porsche.
Just put in your vin# and your build sheet options are listed along with cost.

It works for me. '01 C4.
It took a few tries and it is apparently caps sensitive, and the third digit in our vin is a zero, not an O.

Yes case sensitive. I tried it earlier this AM when it was first posted by TNR911 and was happy to get more info on my car. $91k for a 03 C4S Coupe

You're missing a number between the X and S.

Thanks Taz for checking. I confirmed that there is no number between the X and S. Just those 17 characters.

Google Translate although be prepared for "the mechanical assembly that allows the selection of gear speed" type translations

Looks like there isn't much in there for pre-2001 cars.

Very cool link... Worked for my car! Though the total price on the the 'print' option and the build sheet is slightly out of sync..
