Default 996 02' convertible Top on a '99 996

Hi Members. Is it possible to put a 2002 996 soft top on a 1999 996? I know the frames are different because of the glass window. I want to know if the 2002 soft top as an entire frame assembly can be installed on a 1999? Thanks in advance for any feedback on this!

My guess is you wanted to post this in the 996 tech forum, not the Help forum.

it's the same. however, you need a hardware kit for the hardtop posts to lock onto. there are two hardware kit types. if your car came with a hardtop originally, the hardware kit is there and you can see it when you open the little plastic caps. if so, you just need to verify the hardtop you buy fits your car.

unless you live in midwest or NE part of US, i dont think the hardtop serves much purpose. the fabric top does a great job is keeping the element out. just keep the car indoors and treat the fabric with raggtop every 6 months and you should be fine.

That's not what OP is asking, he's asking about using 996.2 soft top with glass rear window on a 996.1 car which had plastic rear window on the soft top.

FWIW I don't have a direct answer for you but my 99 cab came with a new top/glass window.

It's almost certainly the aftermarket version, the glass window is smaller than the clear vinyl version because the folding aspect of the Mk-1 convertible mechanism just does not allow the larger window opening to be rigid as with the glass window.

Yep my window is tiny! A Porsche product or someone else's? Seems like a quality top OA.

Thank you all so much for all the feedback!! My humblest appologies for not replying sooner, I am used to receiving email notices of rennlist replies and did not get one notice. So sorry!

Can I ask you, do you know it's the same from an installation experience you've had? I have the barrel locks for the hard top. I use it in the hot summer sometimes. Car cools faster/better with the hard top. Thanks again for the explanation!

Thanks for summing up my question technically. I will use your explanation next time. It's exactly what I was asking.

I did not know enough about my car when I bought A 99' but I do now. I appreciate the direction though!
